1811 Iranian students from the Azerbaijani province of Iran made a formal demand from President Rohani to grant a declaration of human rights for minorities in Iran (i.e. Arab, Kurd, Baluchs, Bahii, Christian, Atheist, etc.).
Below is the translation of this formal request:
IN THE NAME OF GOD
HONORABLE PRESIDENT OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN, Dr. HASSAN ROHANI:
Now that it is close to two years into our Presidency and your government’s tenure we find it necessary to bring to your attention the importance of begining dialogue regarding the compelling assertions that you made led to your winning the election as President.
President Rohani, use of our mother tongue language is a basic right that is being ignored by the Islamic Republic.
You had firmly stated that the mother language of all Iranians must be honored when you gave a speech during your campaign. This has not materialized since the inception of the Islamic Republic of Iran and contrary the Islamic Republic has demonstrated to do the opposite, oppress ethnic minorities’ rights to include but not limited to use of their native languages.
We ask and hope for your consideration to honor the assertions you made which led to your winning the office of the Presidency.
